The purpose of Foundation Dr. Ir. Marc Jacobs is to advance the development of urban planning and design by widening the international orientation of students attending Dutch academic institutions.

For this purpose - during a five year period - the foundation will give students at Master’s level the opportunity to participate in the annual ISOCARP congresses, which are held around the world. The foundation will award a grant to at least one student, which will cover the costs of travel, accomodation and conference.

On the 22nd of June 2009, Foundation Dr. Ir. Marc Jacobs was established in memory of Marc Jacobs, who passed away on the 24th of August 2008, age 43. The community of urban planners lost a highly motivated professional and inspiring colleague.

As a practitioner and independent consultant, Marc put in exceptional effort in the area of urban and regional development, and indeed distinguished himself by writing an important and authoritative thesis in which he contributed to the scientific foundation of regional urban planning with a research of multimodal urban structures. The results of this research found their way into practice.

As chairman of the Dutch delegation of the international organization ISOCARP, an international association of experienced professional planners, Marc Jacobs was closely involved in the continuing global development of ISOCARP.
